The council chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, Olusesan Mayokun Daini, has given an account of his stewardship over the past four years. In a recent interview with Ivogue TV, the chairman noted that upon assumption of office, his administration came with a multi-pronged approach to bettering the lives of the people in LCDA.
Reeling out his achievements in the past four years, Daini noted that his administration focused on the three main areas; security, infrastructure and youth empowerment to align the LCDA to the Lagos smart city masterplan.
According to Daini, his administration stepped up the security activities of the LCDA by bringing the traditional rulers into the security architecture. “When we assumed office there was the issue of ‘Badoo’ cult group and it was prevalent. Badoo started in this LCDA. We swung into action and fortunately, the commissioner of police then, Mr. Edgal Imohimi established a Mobile police Base here because we told them that we can accommodate them if they were looking for space. That gives us a very good security strength to fight. But we did not stop at that because in this type of environment we have to localize security, he said keying into the presidential directive on community policing, he noted, the LCDA holds a monthly peace and security committee meeting with attendance from all the local security outfits.
On fostering economic growth in the LCDA, Daini said that his administration improved on only its market by fitting it with the modern facilities befitting the smart city Agenda of the Lagos State government.
“Presently what we have now is about 200 shops with about 180 key clamp shops to meet the major and international standards of what a market should look like. We also fitted it with a waste management system, conveniences, ample parking space, and all of that. So we have been doing our part to make sure that there is progress economically and there is an impact in the social-economic part of our people,’ the LCDA boss added.
He further stated in boosting the socio-economic activities of the LCDA, his administration had trained a lot of youths and is giving out bursaries and scholarships to its students. On health, Daini stated that LCDA’s flagship health center, the Agbele health centre, has just been approved for an upgrade by the Lagos State governor, Babajide sanwolu to a comprehensive medical health center, which is like a mini general hospital. “That would be a plus to us while we put in so many other efforts to give better healthcare to our people. The next phase, By God’s grace, will be more interesting. people should expect more because, despite these that we have done, we used almost eight months to research to build a foundation. We will also be focusing on engaging our young people in entrepreneurship and vocational training. The council will be collaborating with other organizations to make sure that our youths are welled trained and not only training them, but training them and getting them welled equipped to face the labour market,” he added
